Chardon High School Shooter Escapes from Prison
The teen convicted of killing three students at Chardon High School in 2012 escaped on Thursday evening and was captured more than five hours later.
LIMA, Ohio – The teen convicted of killing three students at Chardon High School in 2012 escaped from the Allen Oakwood Correction Institution on Thursday evening, and was captured more than five hours later.
T.J. Lane, 19, escaped with two other inmates at 7:40 p.m., prompting a massive manhunt. Local residents were warned to lock their doors and not pick up hitch hikers, reports NewsNet5. Police were also dispatched to the families of Lane’s victims to protect them. Additionally, Chardon schools were closed on Friday as a protective measure, reports ABC News.
Lane was captured only about 100 yards away from the prison because authorities quickly set up a perimeter.
He was serving three life sentences for shooting and killing Russell King Jr., 17, Daniel Parmertor and Demetrius Hewlin, both 16. He also injured three others. As the result of his escape, Lane has been transferred to a maximum security facility.
