South Dakota Student Shoots Principal in Office
The student was tackled and held down until police arrived.
Principal Kevin Lein initiated a lockdown over the intercom after he was shot.
A South Dakota high school principal suffered what is believed to be a flesh wound after being shot in his office by a student September 30.
A Harrisburg High School student is in custody after police say he shot Principal Kevin Lein in the arm following a dispute around 10 a.m., according to kdlt.com.
Police say Lein, who is in stable condition, could’ve suffered far greater injuries if not for the intervention of Assistant Principal Ryan Rollinger. Rollinger reportedly tackled the student and held him down with Athletic Director Joe Struwe until law enforcement arrived.
The school was immediately locked down and later evacuated, although no students were reported injured.
A senior at the school says Lein initiated the lockdown over the intercom following the shooting. Lein also announced over the intercom that he’d been shot but was okay.
The motive of the shooting is unclear.
